Maintain Your Skin’s Moisture with These Tips

Do not take showers longer than necessary. It is best to limit showers to 10 minutes max.

A well moisturized skin will make you look young, healthy and vibrant. Conversely, dry skin will make you look old and dull. Now people have different skin types, some have normal skin, some oily, some dry and there are even some with combination skin types. But no matter which skin type you have, no one is exempted from the need to use moisturizers in their daily regimen.

No matter the time, place and season our skin needs to be kept hydrated, therefore we always need to keep a bottle of moisturizer in hand. Buy moisturizers from the stores or if you have the know-how to concoct one for yourself, do so, it will work just fine. But in whatever kind you use, do make sure to get one that will suit your skin type to avoid any mishap.

The following tips aim to give you information on the ‘what nots’ and the ‘what tos’ to maintain your skin’s moisture at all times.

  1. When taking a shower or washing, keep water temperature as low as you can handle to limit the loss of moisture and protective oils from your skin.

  2. Do not take showers longer than necessary. It is best to limit showers to 10 minutes max.

  3. Shut bathroom doors when taking a shower to maintain the room’s humidity.

  4. Towel dry after your shower or wash – just blot out the water and do not rub the towel on your skin. Air drying will make your skin dry.

  5. Always follow up with a moisturizing cream or lotion within 3 minutes after your shower or after washing while your skin is still moist to seal the remaining water into the pores of your skin.

  6. Keep it your daily nighttime regimen to moisturize your skin right before sleeping.

  7. Always keep yourself hydrated by drinking lots of water. Women need to drink at least 2 liters of water in a day, while men needs at least 3 liters.

  8. Quit smoking and refrain from drinking alcohol. The free radicals in these substances will make your skin look old, dry and dull.

Aside from commercial moisturizers, did you know that there are actually things in our homes that make a good substitute for store bought moisturizers?

  • Oils (olive, coconut, sesame, castor, jojoba or any oil available) – Every 2-3 times a week, massage oil onto skin and leave overnight.

  • Aloe Vera – apply onto skin for about 10 minutes then rinse with warm water (2-3 days interval)

  • Honey – leave on skin for 10-20 minutes then rinse with lukewarm water

  • Milk – apply generously on skin, leave on for 10-15 minutes then rinse with lukewarm water, twice every week.

  • Avocado – mash the avocado and apply onto skin for about 10 minutes then rinse with lukewarm water (2x a week)

The above mentioned products are all natural therefore no adverse effects are to be expected from its use. Aside of course if you have any allergic reactions to any of it.

We have different skins and different reactions to certain types of products. You should find out what suits you best. If in doubt, get a free consultation at Loveli Skin Beauty Centre to help you find out the best product and treatment that will work for your skin.
