How To Determine Your Skin Type At Home

After washing your face with water and not using any skin care products, sleep in an air condition free environment, tie your hair and have an appropriate amount of beauty sleep. The next day, wipe a clean oil blotting tissue or clean facial tissue right away while observing the look and feel of your skin in front of a mirror.

Before anything else let us tackle first what are T-zone and C-zone

T-zone – Draw an imaginary T in the middle of your face thus covering your forehead, nose, sides of your nose and your chin.

C-zone – Imagine a letter C on outside of your face from your temples going to your jaw. This zone is usually dry and blemish free but it can help you identify combination, acne prone and oily skin types.

Skin Type Categories

  • Normal (slightly Oily T-Zone but dry C-zone)

  • Oily (oily T-zone and C-zone)

  • Dry (dry T-zone and C-zone)

  • Combination (dry in some areas and oily in other areas

  • Sensitive (red and flaky)

Normal Skin Type (slightly oily T-zone but dry C-zone)

  • This skin type is not too oily or too dry. It has some few problems, some visible pores and has a sturdy disposition. You could see some oil on your facial tissue around the T-zone but for the rest of your face it will appear hydrated and smooth.

Oily Skin Type (oily T-zone and C-zone)

  • Oily skin has oil on cheeks, nose, forehead, and also on the outer areas of your face like the chin and your hairline. This type also looks thick, greasy, coarse, dull and shiny. It may also have enlarged pores and will sometimes progress into acne like blackheads and pimples.

Dry Skin Type (dry T-zone and C-zone)

  • After wiping your face with a facial tissue, it will have no visible oil and your skin may appear flaky, dry, and tight after wiping. Dry skin has almost no visible pores and can easily develop wrinkles, sallow tone and also prone to aging and irritations.

Combination (dry in some areas oily in others)

  • Combination skin can have both oily and dryness but are localized on different areas of the face. You may have oily forehead and chin but noted dryness on cheeks and nose. Dry and oily patches may occur and needs different skin care on those areas.

Sensitive (red and flaky)

  • Red and flaky is the main observable trait on a sensitive skin type. They will not produce any oil upon wiping a facial tissue on your skin since they are dry and flaky. Sensitive skin type feels tight and inflamed or can be irritated easily. Sensitive skin type can be also called dehydrated skin since it lacks hydration which results in dull, sallow, and sagging complexion.
